Rosacea is a skin condition that affects outward parts of the face. Rosacea affects about 1 in 10 people in the UK, usually in middle age. There are three main types. these include facial flushing and thread veins; small spots, and thickening of the skin. A fourth (rare) type can affect the eyes and cause a gritty sensation in them, but there are far more common causes of such eye symptoms.
Treatment for rosacea varies with how severe it is. Some do not require any treatment. Other people may find benefit with antibiotic creams and tablets (even though it is not an infection). In very severe cases of skin thickening, surgery may be needed.
