Skin Care Cymru (SCC) is an organisation that represents the interests of people in Wales

Skin Care Cymru (SCC) is an organisation that represents the interests of  people in Wales who have a skin condition. We seek to improve care for people affected by any skin condition and to educate and inform relevant professional bodies, the public and the media about the needs of people affected by such conditions. We seek to support both those with skin conditions, their carers and families.

The aims of Skin Care Cymru are:

To work towards improving access to healthcare for people who have skin disease.

To make recommendations to the Welsh Assembly Government and healthcare providers and look for improvements in dermatological services across Wales.

To educate and inform the public about skin disease and appropriate treatments through media campaigns and organised events.

To provide a strong, high profile voice for dermatology patients.

To support other organisations and professional bodies to pursue these objectives.

Paul Thomas QC Chair Skin Care Cymru

Also a Patient Representative on the Dermatology Council for Wales. I am a barrister based in Swansea. I developed Psoriasis in 1991. My special interest is in the psychological and social effects of skin disease as these aspects are insufficently considered, especially where young patients are involved.

Dr Barry Statham, Consultant Dermatologist

In my work I see on a daily basis the effects that skin diseases have upon my patients and their families. The effects are far ranging from pain and discomfort that prevent patients performing everyday tasks the rest of us take for granted; social isolation and embarrassment, reduction in opportunities in employment etc. etc. In spite of this skin disease is a low priority for healthcare providers. It somehow does not have the glamour or appeal of heart disease or cancer and it tends to attract less attention. For these reasons I am very pleased to be associated with Skin Care Cymru. I would urge as many people affected by skin disease as possible to give their support to this worthwhile cause. Politicians can happily ignore medical professionals when they plead for more resources; when there are large numbers of their constituents around Wales speaking out through a well-supported patient group they pay attention. Give Skin Care Cymru your support; patients with skin disease in Wales need a voice.

Michael Bond

Former Secondary School teacher in Cardiff for 20 years, I still undertake part-time examining and moderating for GCSE Design and Technology. I have been the Lay Patient Dermatology Representative for Gwent Healthcare Trust since 2005, and am a current member of the Trust's Research and Development Scrutiny Committee. I also lecture to prospective research students on the Trust's Research & Development Training Courses.  I am married with one daughter. I have had Psoriatic Arthritis since 1993.  Now retired through ill-health, I understand the impact that skin conditions can have on an individual’s life and this led me to become involved with Skincare Cymru and I urge you to support our campaign to raise the profile of skin conditions in Wales.
